Chinese New Year 2017 Celebration at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

Lung Hin at the Marco Polo Ortigas Manila is one of the most prominent Chinese restaurants in Manila, famous for its traditional and authentic Cantonese cuisine. It is also one of the most sought after dining destinations in the metro because of the stunning view of the city from the restaurant.

Prosperity Toss with Salmon Yu Sheng | Lung Hin, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

This year, Lung Hin will be offering two Chinese New Year Menus which will be available on January 27, 28 and 29, 2017. The Yin Menu and the Yang Menu are priced at P26,800++ and P29,800++ respectively, and are both good for 10 persons.

Here is a preview of the Yin Menu which consists of nine dishes. The meal starts with the Prosperity Toss, a Chinese New Year ritual which originated in Singapore slowly gaining popularity here in the Philippines.

Portion of the Yu Sheng | Lung Hin, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

Also called Yu Sheng or Yee Sang, the Prosperity Toss includes various ingredients which participants should mix together by tossing using chopsticks. The higher the toss, the higher the fold of prosperity.

Braised Pork Tongue with Dried Oyster and Black Moss | Lung Hin, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

The Braised Pork Tongue with Dried Oyster and Black Moss is a soup dish that was surprisingly light in flavor. The dried oyster added another layer of flavor that works well with the pork broth. Lotus root is also added to give a contrast in texture.

Fried Rice with Taro and Chinese Sausage | Lung Hin, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

The Fried Rice with Taro and Chinese Sausage was very fragrant, yet light to the taste. The spring onion added color to the dish, while the bits of taro provided an interesting sweet note to the rice.

Braised Crab Meat with Dried Scallop and Asparagus | Lung Hin, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

The Braised Crab Meat with Dried Scallop and Asparagus was delicate to the taste. The silky broth that enveloped the crab meat went well with the fried rice. The asparagus was fresh and crunchy and was good on its own.

Stir Fried Prawn with Asparagus and Red Wine Pear | Lung Hin, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

The Stir Fried Prawn with Asparagus and Red Wine Pear was one of my favorite dishes from the Yin Menu. Huge and plump prawns were used and you could really taste the freshness in every bite. The slices or pear soaked in red wine added an lively contrast of color, while its sweet taste worked perfectly well as a follow-up bite to the prawn.

Braised Pork Knuckle with Black Moss and Vegetables | Lung Hin, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

Another favorite dish of ours was the Braised Pork Knuckle with Black Moss and Vegetables. The pork knuckle was super tender and flavorful. Every bite of it went well with the fried rice. Don't waste the sauce and the black moss! Order extra rice if you will, and top it with that glorious sauce!

Lung Hin Braised Sea Cucumber Casserole and Assorted Seafood in Hot Pot | Lung Hin, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

I thought that was the end of it, but to my surprise, there is yet another dish served. The Lung Hin Braised Sea Cucumber Casserole and Assorted Seafood in Hot Pot was overflowing with premium seafood items, all beautifully mixed in one dish.

Sweetened Cashew Nut with Sesame Dumpling | Lung Hin, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

The Yin Menu includes two desserts. The first one is the Sweetened Cashew Nut with Sesame Dumpling. It is a cashew version of Fa Sung Woo, which is a traditional Chinese dessert made with peanut paste, and served by Lung Hin with Tang Yuan filled sesame paste.

Finally, the Pan-Fried Coconut and Brown Sugar Sticky Rice Cake Combination makes for a simple yet perfect reminder of the true essence of the celebration, a special moment when friends and family gather together, strengthening the relationships that bind us together, as we welcome a new year full of prosperity, happiness, abundance and good health.

Deep Fried Hong Kong Pigeon | Lung Hin, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

The Yang Menu is equally interesting with entirely different line-up of dishes included: Prosperity Toss with Salmon Fish Yu Sheng, Shredded Duck Soup with Fish Lips, Sauteed Shrimp and Pacific Clam with Vegetables in Oyster Sauce, Steamed Whole Garoupa with Light Soy Sauce, Braised Abalone with Black and Golden Mushroom in Oyster Sauce, Deep Fried Hong Kong Pigeon, Braised E-Fu Noodles with Assorted Mushrooms in Abalone Sauce, Pan-Fried Coconut and Brown Sugar Sticky Rice Cake Combination, and Deep-Fried Chocolate Buchi.

Glutinous Rice Cake | Lung Hin, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

Also available at Lung Hin are glutinous rice cakes in yam and brown sugar flavors (P988.00), as well as special Koi-shaped coconut flavor glutinous rice cakes (P1,188.00). Another interesting offering at Lung Hin are the Golden Pineapple Pastry freshly made by Lung Hin’s Hong Kong chefs and comes in a box of eight pieces (P888.00 per box).
