Rasa Premier Room (Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang)

The Rasa Premier Room is one of the six Rasa Wing room categories of Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang. The most spacious among Rasa Wing's guestroom categories, the 62 square meter Rasa Premier Room offers the conveniences of a studio with the refinements of a suite.

I stayed at room 2508 during my visit to the property last April. The Rasa Premier Room begins with a spacious foyer which also doubles as the room's closet. It has a luggage rack a vanity table and chair. A hair dryer is stored in one of the drawers. Clothes can be hanged inside the cabinet while additional drawer cabinets provide space for folded garments.

Two pair of bath robes and two pairs of beach slippers are also provided. In addition, there's also an iron and ironing board stored inside the cabinet, as well as an electronic safe which can fit most DSLR cameras and laptops.

The minibar serves as an extension of the wall that divides the foyer and the seating area. A sofa and a couch can accommodate upto four adults and is perfect for entertaining visitors. The interior of the room employed a lot of warm colors and dark wood, giving it a legacy luxury and homey feel. Locally inspired accent pieces give the room a string Malaysian character.

A spacious executive writing table serves as the divider between the seating area and the sleeping area of the room. The absence of  a wall makes the room feel more spacious and airy. An LCD TV is mounted on the wall next to the writing table and can be tilted to either directions. Local and international cable and satellite channels are available. Complimentary high speed wifi connection is also available inside the room and in all common areas of the resort.

The sleeping area is furnished with a king bed and two bedside tables. Bedside light controls make is more convenient for guests to switch on or off the lights when desired. Consistent with other Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts properties, the beds here at Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang allow for a very relaxing sleep. High thread-count sheets and comfortable pillows are provided.

The Rasa Premier Room has a spacious private balcony with access doors from the seating area and from the sleeping area. Depending in the location, Rasa Premier Rooms may have a view of the pool or of the garden. A few units, just like the room where I stayed, enjoy view of both the pool and the garden.

Above is the view of the pool area during sunset as seen from the sleeping area side of my room's balcony, while below is the view of the pool area in the morning. A centuries old rain tree serves as a centerpiece in the Rasa Wing garden. It symbolizes the resort's sense of history and identity.

The highlight of the Rasa Premier Room is the over-sized soaking tub at the private balcony, and to make the bathing experience more memorable, guests staying in a Rasa Premier Room will enjoy a one-time complimentary specialty bath available in four scents: refining rose bath, rejuvenating ginger bath, refreshing juniper bath, and relaxing lavender bath.

To avail of the complimentary specialty bath, just call guest services at least 30 minutes before your preferred schedule. During bath time, you can either enjoy the view overlooking the garden or create privacy by drawing the shades down using the remote control.

After enjoying your bath, it's time to rinse yourself in the shower. The en-suite bathroom is equally spacious and luxuriously clad in marbles, complete with his-and-hers basins and spacious marble countertop.

The walk-in shower is roomy and is fitted with a rainfall shower head and a handheld shower head. Guests staying in a Rasa Premier Room are provided with Jasmine & Bergamote bath amenities from La Collection de Grasse of L'Occitane en Provence.

While most Shangri-La properties provide these L'Occitane amenities in 30ml bottles, Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang provides them in 50ml bottles. These are replenished everyday by housekeeping.
