Wonderful Room with Lake View at W Hotel Xi'an China

The Wonderful Room is one of the two guestroom categories of W Xi'an. All Wonderful Rooms are located on the lower floors of the hotel and guests can choose between a Wonderful Room with a city view or a lake view. Wonderful Rooms with a city view are available in a king-bed or double-beds configuration while Wonderful Rooms with a lake view are only available in a king-bed configuration.

When I visited Xi'an last winter, I decided to stay at W Xi'an and booked a Wonderful Room with Lake View (63sqm). I stayed at room 1219 which is located on the 12th floor of the hotel. I think my room was high enough to get a good panoramic view of the lake and the city at the background. Here is the view from my balcony where I took this photo a few minutes after sunset. The outdoor temperature was between 1°C to 6°C so I stayed inside the room most of the time.

The room combines design elements inspired by the ancient history of Xi'an, its culture and the city's modernity. The most noticeable design element are the peach-shaped ornaments on the bed and prints on pillows. Peaches are said to be tributes sent from the ancient city of Samarkand to the imperial court of the Tang Dynasty in Ch'ang-an, now modern day Xi'an.

I got a platter of pastries and pralines as part of my welcome amenities. I was particularly curious about the vintage cameras displayed next to the bed and after researching online, I found out that Xi'an is one of the major cities in China with a long history of film making. The cameras did blend well in the design theme of the room. Check-out the control buttons for the lights and curtains conveniently located next to the bed's headboard.

The Wonderful Room has a walk-in closet with plenty of space to hang your clothes. There's also an iron and ironing board so you can easily fix those wrinkles before heading to a business meeting or hanging-out with friends at WOOBAR.

My room was furnished with a king-size W Signature Bed. Having experienced this bed at W Suzhou and W Kuala Lumpur, I was certain that I would have an excellent sleep experience here at W Xi'an. The room had perfect insulation keeping the indoor temperature at a comfortable 20°C, exactly how I set the air-conditioner's thermostat.

The room is equipped with a 55-inch LED HD television with a Bose soundbar. The sound quality was really excellent that you can play your party playlist inside the room. Consistent with the design of many newly opened W Hotels, the Wonderful Room does not have the typical work desk found in many hotels.

Instead, there is a writing desk which is good enough to catch up with some work during idle time. The table at the sitting area also works fine as a laptop table. On the one hand, the absence of a working desk makes the room look more stylish and modern, and on the other hand, guests are encouraged to just relax and enjoy their time while on holiday.

A room at W is not complete without a W MixBar which W Xi'an smartly conceals inside a cabinet. Opening the cabinet door reveals the W MixBar glammed up with mirrors and Hollywood mirror lights. Mix you own cocktails using spirits such as Beefeater, Ballantines, Absolut and Martell Noblige, and mixers such as tonic water, soda and fruit juices.

A guestroom this big deserves an equally spacious bathroom. With the walls and floor covered with black and green marble, the bathroom exudes a modern yet luxurious feel. There are double vanities with plenty of counter-top space for personal toiletries.

At the one end of the bathroom is the water closet while at the opposite end is the walk-in shower. Both hand-held and rainfall shower heads are installed. Water pressure was excellently strong while water temperature was easily regulated. Hot water was instantaneously available.

There is another glass door inside the walk-in shower which leads to the bathtub area. I particularly loved the huge stand alone tub. From here, I also got to enjoy the view of the lake and of the city. Bath robes, room slippers and plenty of towels (including large size ones) were provided.

One thing that I always look forward to when staying in a W are the Lemon + Sage bath and body amenities by Bliss. The complete set includes shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion, massage soap and foaming face wash. The refreshing citrus scent makes me feel and smelling clean the whole day.
