The breakfast buffet at Waldorf Astoria Chengdu includes a wide selection of local and international breakfast items. The continental section features freshly baked bread and pastries, premium cheeses and charcuterie.  There's also a variety of Chinese and Western hot dishes as well as live cooking stations for egg dishes and noodle soup dishes.

Whenever I am in China, I always look for the local specialty breakfast items. My first plate consisted of fried rice, roast duck, hotpot style fish, and steamed vegetables. Similar to my breakfast experience at Waldorf Astoria Bangkok, I almost didn't have to go to the buffet stations anymore because the wait staff was too nice to serve the food on our table.

It was day-8 of my Nanjing-Xian-Chengdu trip and I terribly miss having authentic Cantonese dim sum for breakfast, and I was surprised that they serve really good Shumai (steamed pork and shrimp dumplings) and Hargow (steamed shrimp dumplings) here at Brasserie 99.

The texture and consistency of the dim sum skin can tell that the shumai and the hargow were freshly made and not over steamed. You could also taste the freshness of the shrimps from their juiciness and natural sweetness.

Another dish I ordered was the Pork Dumpling Soup. It can be served with clear pork broth or with spicy oil. It looks similar to the Cantonese wanton soup, but this one doesn't have fish in its broth. The warm soup was very comforting.

Since I was in Chengdu, I thought that it would be nice to have a Sichuan specialty noodle dish for breakfast. Although it was not part of the menu that day, the staff requested the chef to prepare Dan Dan Noodles for me. Maybe they felt how much I love Dan Dan Noodles.
