During our visit, we tried two varieties of their bibimbap, starting with the classic Bulgogi Bibimbap (불고기 비빔밥). The sweet soy sauce marinated beef is served on a bed of steamed short-grain rice and topped with gim (김) or dried edible seaweed. It comes with two choices of banchan (반찬) or Korean side dishes.

We also tried a Filipino version of bibimbap, the Sisig Bibimbap (시식 비빔밥). Sisig is the perfect choice to combine with bibimbap because Koreans also love Sisig. The sisig was cooked pork meat and then served on a bed of steamed short-grain rice and then topped with chicharon (Filipino pork cracklings), long chili, and gim (dried edible seaweed). This also comes with two choices of banchan (반찬).

Traditionally, a variety of sauteed vegetables or namul (나물) are also served in the bowl together with the bibimbap, and finally topped with a poached egg. Here at Oori, they serve the sauteed vegetables and the poached egg separately, allowing the diners to customize their bibimbap according to their preference. For added spiciness, guests can also add gochujang (고추장) or chili paste to their bibimbap.

Korean cuisine is also known for its stews, soups, and hotpots. One of the signature dishes of Oori is the Mandu Jeongol (김치 만두 전골) or Korean dumpling hotpot. This is a sour and spicy soup cooked with kimchi, pork and Korean dumplings (mandu). This serving is good for two persons and can be a meal on its own, or can be shared by a group as an appetizer.

As mentioned earlier, Oori Korean Restaurant features smokeless barbecue grills that use bamboo charcoal. Unlike electric grills, Korean barbecue cooked over charcoal has a subtle smokey flavor. Here at Oori, guests can choose to grill their barbecue themselves or have them grilled by the restaurant's staff.

A popular way of eating Korean barbecue is to wrap the grilled meat in lettuce like a spring roll before eating. You can also dip the roll in ssamjang sauce which the staff can prepare for you. Alternatively, you can add kimchi inside the roll. A simple way to enjoy grilled meat is to dip it in rock salt which will release the pure umami taste of the meat.

Mango Bingsu (left), Fresh Fruits Bingsu (right) | Oori Korean Restaurant, Sheraton Manila Hotel |
No other dessert can be more Korean than Bingsu (빙수) or shaved ice milk. A more modern version of this classic Korean dessert is the Mango Bingsu which is topped with sweet mangoes from Guimaras, corn flakes and chunks of cheesecake. The Koreans' love for mangoes makes the Mango Bingsu a popular choice. Oori also serves Fresh Fruits Bingsu which is a less sweet and healthier version.
