Oceano Italian Restaurant is one of the newest dining outlets of Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu and is the only authentic Italian restaurant in this part of Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of the resort's Ocean Wing and is open for lunch and dinner.
Oceano offers both indoor and al-fresco dining settings with the ambiance generally casual and relaxed while maintaining a high-end and elegant dining experience through quality of food and service. Its quiet location makes it an ideal venue to business lunches and intimate dinners.
Oceano uses the freshest and the finest ingredients for its dishes. In line with Shangri-La's Rooted in Nature program, Oceano sources most of its fresh ingredients from local farmers and producers. Key Italian ingredients are still sourced from Italy to ensure quality and authenticity of taste.
During my recent visit to Kota Kinabalu, I was able to sample some of Oceano's dishes during a lunch meeting at Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort & Spa. We started our meal with two kinds of bruschetta. One was topped with locally grown mushrooms and the other one topped with cherry tomatoes and mozzarella. I enjoyed the natural sweetness of the vegetables which caramelized after being sauteed in olive oil.
For my main course, I had the grilled tuna served on a bed of mashed potato. I got a generous serving of tuna which was lightly seared on the outside, and moist on the inside. The tuna wasn't heavily seasoned which retained its natural flavor.
I liked the coarse consistency of the mashed potato, giving it texture to the palate. The sweetness and sourness from cherry tomatoes balanced all the flavors of the dish.
Finall for dessert, I had Oceano's famous Tiramisu which is made of lady fingers soaked in Italian espresso, topped with mascarpone cheese, and sprinkled with cocoa powder.
Oceano Italian Restaurant also serves breakfast exclusive for the resort guests staying in an Ocean Wing Premier Room. Walk-in guests are welcome during lunch and dinner.
