Summer Palace (夏宮) is the premier Chinese restaurant of Edsa Shangri-La, Manila which has been serving authentic Cantonese cuisine since 1992. Summer Palace is known for the superb quality of the dishes it serves, as well as for its outstanding level of service and warm hospitality.

Summer Palace features a modern Chinese interior design that is inspired by the Manila Galleon Trade which brought with it culinary influences from Canton to Manila. The contemporary furniture and accent pieces added to the young and chic vibe of the restaurant.

Summer Palace is the top choice for business lunch in a fine dining setting. Summer Palace is also a preferred restaurant to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries and is a popular choice of venue for Chinese engagement ceremonies.

The restaurant's main dining area has tables that can accommodate individual and small groups of diners. Summer Palace also has private dining rooms that can accommodate groups of 5 up to 14 persons. Three private dining rooms can also be combined to accommodate up to 30 persons.

In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Summer Palace implements health and safety measures in line with the Shangri-La Cares program. The restaurant currently operates at a reduced seating capacity in order to observe safe physical distancing. Stringent sanitation and personal hygiene are also observed.

Dishes served here at Summer Palace are fairly priced, considering the big portions and the high quality. I have dined here at Summer Palace countless times already, and I always had a pleasant dining experience here. Below are the dishes that I always order and can personally recommend for you to try.


From the Dim Sum Menu
Steamed Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow) at Summer Palace at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Steamed Shrimp Dumplings (夏宮蝦餃皇) - Summer Palace serves the biggest har gow (xiā jiǎo) you can find in Manila. Each dumpling is generously filled with plump and juicy shrimps. The naturally sweet taste will tell you that the dumplings were made with fresh shrimps. This goes well with chili paste.

Steamed Rice Roll (chang fen) at Summer Palace at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Steamed Rice Roll with Fresh Shrimp, BBQ Pork, or Fresh Scallops (鮮蝦义燒,或鮮帶子蒸腸粉) - Summer Palace serves Hong Kong-quality chang fen (steamed rice roll). They really nailed the silky texture of the rice rolls and the authentic taste of the sweet soy sauce. I always order this whenever I miss my trips to Hong Kong and Guangzhou. If you are not allergic to seafood, order the version with scallops.

Steamed Scallop Dumplings (露筍帶子餃) - Here is a premium item you should order from the dim sum menu. It is within the same price range as the shumai and har gow, so it won't dent your budget. The dumpling is filled with minced scallop (and shrimp?) and then topped with a slice of scallop and fish roe. You should dip this in soy sauce to bring out the umami of the scallop.

Baked Pork Pastries (char siu sou) at Summer Palace at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Baked Pork Pastries (香蔴叉燒酥) - Also called BBQ Pork Puffs, or char siu sou in Cantonese, this baked pastry is very common in Hong Kong. It is made with Chinese puff pastry stuffed with Cantonese BBQ pork. It is best eaten when freshly baked. I also order this for takeaway so I can snack on it at home.

Pan-fried Radish Cake (chhai thau koe) at Summer Palace at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Pan-fried Radish Cake (臘味籮白糕) - This is a staple whenever I dine at Summer Palace. I always request that the radish cakes be fried until golden brown and extra crispy. When served, the cakes are not oily and the inside remains soft and moist.

Baked Charcoal Bun with Seafood at Summer Palace at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Baked Charcoal Bun with Seafood (焗海鮮炭飽) - This one of the unique offerings here at Summer Palace. It is a baked bun topped with sweet charcoal crust and stuffed with a custardy seafood filling. This is a definite must-try!

Pan-fried Duck Meat Buns at Summer Palace at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Pan-fried Duck Meat Buns (香煎梅菜火鴨飽) - This reminds me of the Sheng Jian Bao (生煎包) of Shanghai but instead of a soupy minced pork filling, these pan-fried buns are filled with Cantonese-style duck meat braised with plum sauce. This is also a must-try and is also perfect for takeaway.



From the à la Carte Menu
Fried Crispy Beef at Summer Palace at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Fried Crispy Beef (蜜汁脆皮牛肉) - This is my favorite appetizer here at Summer Palace. Thin slices of beef are fried until super crispy and finally glazed with a honey-based sauce. Think of crispy beef bacon strips with the yummy flavor of beef jerky. This is very addicting. When I stay at Edsa Shangri-la for work, I would order this together with steamed rice for takeaway.

Fried Minced Beef with French Beans at Summer Palace at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Fried Minced Beef with French Beans (老干媽牛茸四季豆) - This is one of my comfort foods when I dine at Summer Palace. The minced beef, mushrooms, and French string beans are stir-fried with Lao Gan Ma chili paste. I love the smokey and lightly spicy taste of this dish which is best eaten with a steaming bowl of rice.

Sautéed Fresh Peeled Crab Meat and Scallops with Egg at Summer Palace at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Sautéed Fresh Peeled Crab Meat and Scallops with Egg (雙色蛋滑溜帶子生拆蟹肉) - This iconic dish is one of the signature dishes included in the 8 Treasures collection of Summer Palace. This premium dish is created impress, so don't forget to order this dish when dining with very close members of the family, business partners, or important clients.

Stir-fried US Kurobuta Pork with Fresh Mushrooms at Summer Palace at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Stir-fried US Kurobuta Pork with Fresh Mushrooms (田園鮮菇美國黑毛猪肉柳) - This is another signature dish from the 8 Treasures collection. This is a perfect dish to order to elevate your fine dining experience with your loved ones and close friends. Go order it if you want to reward yourself, you deserve it!

Fried Rice with Duck Liver and Barbecued Meat at Summer Palace at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Fried Rice with Duck Liver and Barbecued Meat (鴨干义燒炒飯) - Summer Palace offers a wide variety of fried rice dishes, but this one for me stands out the most. It is loaded with fragrance and umami from the duck and pork, but still light enough not to overpower the flavor of the main dishes.

Chilled Fresh Mango Cream with Sago at Summer Palace at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Chilled Fresh Mango Cream with Sago (香芒西米露) - This is my favorite dessert whenever I dine at any Shangri-La Chinese restaurant. The refreshing taste of the mango cleanses the palate after a hearty meal.
